Finair Pilots Go On Strike

Finair’s 750 pilots went on strike just after midnight on November 16th, resulting in the cancellation of at least 215 international and domestic flights. The airline recommended that travelers who can postpone their flights do so, but promised to arrange service on alternate carriers for those who could not. The over 5,000 travelers who were affected will be reimbursed for their tickets. No end-date to the strike has been determined, as negotiations on a settlement are expected to begin sometime this week. The strike will cost the airline an estimated 2.5 to 5 million euros (US$3.7 to 7.5 million) a day.

Meanwhile, other Finnish airlines have announced plans to increase service, while the country’s national railway promised to do the same.
